RIFF - GA Power Community Conversations: Home is a Hotel

On February 15, RIFF and Georgia Power screened the award-winning documentary, Home is a Hotel, at the wonderful new events venue, Screen 417.

Before the film, Georgia Power Northwest Regional Executive Melissa Free welcomed the audience and spoke about the myriad ways Georgia Power supports our community. After the film, co-directors Kevin Wong and Kar Yin Tham talked about the more than six-year process of making the movie. Local housing expert (she called herself a “housing enthusiast” and Serve Rome Executive Director and United Way housing consultant Cathy Aiken Freeman provided her perspective based on researching many ways that other communities work to solve their housing issues. Rome-Floyd County Planning Director Brice Wood spoke about the Unified Land Development Code and provided insight into some of our zoning challenges at all price points. All agreed that Rome and Floyd County need more housing of all kinds.

The screening was free thanks to support from Georgia Power, Screen 417, and the Southern Circuit for Independent Filmmakers, by South Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
